Building the Foundation of Fiber Connectivity
When people think about telecommunications, they often picture the services they use every day—video calls, cloud applications, streaming platforms, and business networks. Behind those services is a complex physical infrastructure that must be carefully built, maintained, and expanded. Field Engineers play a vital role in making that possible. They oversee and support the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks, helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to design specifications.
Field Engineers serve as the connection between network designs and real-world implementation. Their responsibilities include coordinating contractors, inspectors, material vendors, and permitting agencies while helping manage construction projects from start to finish. They support outside plant (OSP) construction activities, track project milestones, oversee materials and resources, and ensure compliance with local regulations and safety requirements. In addition, they play an important role in emergency restoration efforts and disaster recovery activities that help keep critical network infrastructure operational when unexpected outages occur.
The position requires both technical expertise and strong project management skills. Field Engineers work with mapping programs, GPS technology, fiber optic testing equipment, and network documentation systems to maintain accurate records of FiberLight’s infrastructure. They must understand fiber construction practices, permitting requirements, utility regulations, and network engineering principles while balancing multiple priorities and stakeholders. Their ability to coordinate people, processes, and resources helps ensure FiberLight can continue expanding and maintaining a reliable, high-performance network for its customers.

At FiberLight, Field Engineers play a critical role in transforming network plans into operational infrastructure. After engineering teams design a solution and secure the necessary approvals, Field Engineers help bring that vision to life through construction oversight, coordination of field activities, and quality assurance. Their work creates the physical foundation needed for customer services to be delivered successfully. They also serve as an important link to the Service Delivery team, ensuring projects are completed accurately and ready for activation. Once construction is finished, Service Delivery takes the lead in provisioning, testing, and onboarding customers, guiding them through the final steps required to bring their services online and ensure a seamless experience.
