Honoring a Life of Service: FiberLight Dedicates Temple Site to Jerrold Welborn

Thursday, April 2, 2026

On March 16, 2026, FiberLight dedicated its newly rebuilt regeneration shelter in Temple, Texas to the memory of Jerrold Eugene Welborn III, a deeply admired FiberLight technician, proud veteran, and devoted family man who passed away while on duty in 2019. His memory continues to be deeply valued across the company.

Jerrold’s life was defined by service. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Law Enforcement Specialist. His military service reflected a deep commitment to his country and a strong sense of duty that carried on throughout his life. He later spent nearly two decades in civilian law enforcement, continuing to serve his community with integrity and dedication.

During the dedication ceremony, the Welborn family toured the regen hut named for Jerrold Welborn.

He brought that same discipline and work ethic to his career in the telecommunications industry, where he found purpose and pride in his work. Over his 18 years in the field, including six years with FiberLight, Jerrold was known for his reliability, technical expertise, and willingness to go wherever the job required. Whether driving long distances across West Texas or working extended hours in the field, he approached every task with professionalism and care.

Naming the Temple site in his honor, along with a plaque bearing his name, serves as a lasting reminder of how Jerrold approached his work each day. He reflected FiberLight’s core values of integrity, trust, and excellence through his actions, his commitment to his team, and the pride he took in doing the job right.

“Jerrold not only represented the very best of FiberLight, but the best of all of us,” said Senior Network Engineer Jerry Jacques, who supported Jerrold as he worked in the field and championed the effort to name the Temple regeneration site in his honor. “His dedication to his family and country was balanced with a commitment to his work and team; he left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to know him. This dedication ensures he will always be part of the FiberLight family.”

The Temple regeneration shelter also represents something larger. It is part of the critical infrastructure FiberLight is building to support connectivity and economic growth across Texas. Jerrold played a role in that effort, helping to lay the groundwork for the networks that power businesses, communities, and opportunities across the state.

We were honored to welcome the Welborn family to the dedication ceremony and to recognize a life defined by service, commitment, and care for others.
