FiberLight, LLC, a leading optical network provider, led a canned good drive to encourage companies in FiberLight’s business complex to provide food for the hungry during the holiday season.
FiberLight contacted the Atlanta Community Food Bank to secure containers to enable companies to donate non-perishable food during the month of November and December. The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes almost 2 million pounds of food monthly to 800 non-profit agencies in 38 counties in Georgia.
“FiberLight has had such a prosperous year, we wanted to make a difference by doing something to help the less fortunate in the Atlanta community, and we felt like the Atlanta Community Food Bank was a good fit for our organization,” said Rose Ray-Kelly, FiberLight’s Human Resources Specialist. “By collaborating with Duke Realty, we were able to get a great response from other companies, and ORTHO-McNeil, Inc., agreed not only to participate, but to collect donated coats and blankets too.”
Atlanta companies are making a big push this holiday season, said Cynthia White, a Food Bank employee. “We’ve been averaging 40 to 50 barrels a day from all types of businesses as well as area high schools and middle schools,” she said.
At a time when businesses have had to take drastic measures to reduce overhead, FiberLight has experienced significant growth, adding 14 new employees while increasing productivity and doubling sales revenue.
